You will need

  • 2 sheets of A4 card (+ extra for decoration)
  • glue/cellotape
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • ribbon
  • stapler

Make the baskets

  1. Measure and cut out 10 strips of card from your A4 sheets (2.5 x 29.7cm)
  2. Lay 3 strips horizontally, and 3 vertically. Weave them together and secure in the middle with cellotape.
  3. Fold all the loose edges up to make a box shape, so the middle section becomes the base.
  4. Take two extra strips and glue the ends together to make a longer strip, with approx. 2cm overlap. (One strip from the A4 sheet won’t be long enough to go all the way round the box.)
  5. Starting at the bottom of your box, weave your long strip through the upright pieces. Secure with glue on each overlap. (Fold the long strip at each corner to help you continue all the way round).
  6. When you’ve woven and glued your long strip around all 4 sides of the box, cut off what’s left of the strip. Glue this leftover piece to a new strip of card. Repeat steps 5 and 6 twice, so you have three rows of card in your box.
  7. Fold over the bits sticking up at the top of the box, and secure with glue inside the box.
  8. Cut a piece of ribbon and staple it on either side of the basket to create a handle. Decorate your basket however you like!
