Who was the criminal?
We really don’t know much about him. All we know is that he was on the cross next to Jesus. He was being executed for his crimes, and he spoke to Jesus as they were both dying.
What did he say?
There was another man on the other side of Jesus, and he was mocking Jesus; asking why he couldn’t save himself! But the criminal looked at Jesus and knew he was innocent.
He told the other man off and said, “We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man is innocent.”
Then he looked at Jesus and said, “Remember me when you come into your Kingdom” (which is heaven).
Jesus replied, “You will be with me today.”
The criminal recognised that Jesus was God! He knew Jesus was King and that he could take him to his Kingdom as well. He died, knowing he was safe in Jesus’ hands for what was going to come after death.
