Who was Jesus?
Jesus is the reason we celebrate Christmas! He was the baby that was born to Mary in a stable, and shepherds and wise men came to worship him because he is the King; because he is God. His birth was promised a long, long time ago.
And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. ”All of this occurred to fulfil the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:21-23, The Bible.
Wait… is he God or is he human?
He’s both! That’s really difficult to get your head around, but as God he created the world he was born into, and as a human he experienced all the good and sad bits of life that we also go through.
As a human, he had best friends, had a BBQ at the beach, travelled, got really hungry and tried, lost people he loved, and experienced pain and death.
But as God, he healed people, turned water in wine, walked on water, fed thousands of people with a couple of fish and a bit of bread, calmed a storm, and came back to life after he was killed!
