Who was Mary?

Mary was a teenager who was about to get married to a good man named Joseph, but they didn’t live together yet. Mary really loved God.

What happened to Mary?

One day, about nine months before the first ever Christmas, an angel came to tell her that she was going to have a baby! It was a very special baby – it was God’s son, and he was going to be called Jesus.

“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favour with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” Luke 1:30-32, The Bible

How did Mary react?

Mary was very surprised! She knew Jesus would be a miracle baby, because she and Joseph weren’t together yet. She trusted that the angel was telling her the truth.

Mary was so excited that she was going to be Jesus’ mum! She knew that he was God’s Son and her heart was bursting with joy. So she said to God:

“Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.” Luke 1:46-49, The Bible

This is a Christmas song, wondering if Mary would have had any idea what Jesus would do for the world when he grew up! What do you think?
