What is frankincense?
Frankincense is an incense that priests used in the temple as part of their worship to God. The wise men gave it to Jesus as one of their gifts!
They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:11, The Bible.
Why did they give it to Jesus?
This gift showed that Jesus was God and they had come to worship him! And like a priest, Jesus would bring people and God back together.
