Who was Joseph?
Joseph was a carpenter and a descendent of King David (who reigned over Israel around 1000BC). Joseph was engaged to marry Mary when she found out she was going to have a baby.
What happened to Joseph?
It must have been hard for Joseph to believe that Mary was pregnant with God’s baby! He thought the baby belonged to another man, so he was going to break off the engagement quietly, so as not to shame her. But an angel came to Joseph in a dream to tell him everything that Mary told him was true!
Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:19-21, The Bible
He then married Mary and ended up being the adoptive father of Jesus.
